Experiential Learning
You want to learn, but you don’t just want to learn — you want to step out into the real world and make a difference.
At SUNY Plattsburgh, you can do just that.
Here, hands-on experiences abound. Childhood education majors play active roles in area classrooms starting the first semester of their first year. Communications majors run the college’s radio and TV stations and intern with local and even national media. Public relations majors plan campaigns for area non-profits. Environmental science majors work in an 8,600-acre “lab” of farmland and Adirondack wilderness while conducting research for organizations like the Adirondack Park Agency.
It doesn’t end there. Expeditionary studies majors ski, kayak and climb in the Adirondacks and around the world. Accounting students practice their trade filing taxes for those in need. Hospitality management majors gain experience working at places like Disney, Tamaya Hyatt Resort, Lake Placid Lodge, and Spirit Cruises. Recently, our nursing students made a real difference on the front line of the fight against COVID-19. And these experiences are just the tip of the iceberg.
Plus, we have an entire team at the Career Development Center waiting to help you land an internship or applied learning venture that helps you develop the skills you need to succeed in your chosen path.
At Plattsburgh, you don’t just learn, you do.
