Scientia Discipulorum Journal of Undergraduate Research

The Scientia Discipulorum provides a journal for the peer-reviewed publication of research articles written by undergraduate students who have completed independent study or a research project at SUNY Plattsburgh.

The journal includes articles the biological sciences, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, political science and psychology. It offers student assistant editors the opportunity to work with all aspects of the journal including layout and production, manuscript review, and editorial decisions.

The SUNY Plattsburgh e-journal of undergraduate research is published electronically on the web. First authorship of articles is restricted to student researchers, and those within a year of graduating. Faculty, students, and other contributors can be listed as secondary authors. Submitted manuscripts for the science section will be considered from disciplines other than those represented above at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief. All articles are peer-reviewed and will be handled by a associate editors and student assistant editors during the review process.

Review Procedures
The process of review will begin upon receipt of manuscripts that adhere to guidelines to authors. At the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief, manuscripts will be returned to authors in the event the guidelines to authors have not been followed. Associate and Assistant editors will deliver manuscripts to appropriate reviewers; preferably one student and one faculty member (who is neither an author on the paper nor an advisor for the project). The editors will collect the reviews and make one of the following recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief regarding the paper:
- accept without revisions
- accept with minor revisions
- accept with major revisions
- reject

Journal Policy

The Journal policy will be to release copyright for Author’s who seek to use published Scientia discipulorum material in a national or international level professional journal. In addition, the Author(s) shall have the right to photocopy the work for his/her own use or public distribution. If the Author(s) reprints, translates or photocopies the work, the original copyright notice, as it appears in the Journal, must be included. The Author retains all proprietary rights other than copyright, such as patent rights. By submitting a manuscript, the authors agree that the copyright (or equivalent rights) for their article will be transferred to Scientia discipulorum if and when the article is accepted for publication.
E-Journal Policy on Previously Published Material

The publisher requires that all submissions be original contributions and that full disclosure redundant publication must be made in the cover letter at the time of submission. Under certain circumstances, use of the same information in two or more publications is appropriate when new information allows reinterpretation of previously published data. It is the Editor-in-Chief's responsibility to decide whether specific duplications are appropriate and the author’s responsibility to obtain permission for use of any previously published material. A necessary test for prior publication is whether the author can legally transfer copyright to the SUNY Plattsburgh E-Journal of Undergraduate Research.
