Accounting Internships & Careers

The opportunities are endless!

Accounting Internships

If you choose to do an internship, there are many choices. Some are located on campus, others are found in the nearby community and others near your hometown. We are continuously cultivating new opportunities and strongly encourage you to participate in the internship program. It is our way of stimulating your interest in enhancing your leadership development, team building skills, and experiential learning while pursuing your undergraduate accounting education at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Eligibility for internship credit requires a student to have completed at least 57 credit hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 and complete the internship application.

Currently enrolled accounting students can use their Banner ID and password to log into the student employment website and view a detailed list of available internships.

For further information, please contact the Director of Career Opportunities and Internship in the School of Business and Economics at (518) 564-4198 or consult with your faculty advisor.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

Accounting students at SUNY Plattsburgh are offering free tax preparation as part of a collaborative effort between the College and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The program, best known as Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), offers free tax help to low-to moderate-income ($36,000 and below) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Our student volunteers receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in the surrounding community. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Plattsburgh students who are not claimed as dependents and who earn $36,000 or below can also take advantage of this free tax preparation.

To qualify to volunteer for the program, SUNY Plattsburgh students must have completed the Income Tax I (ACC 403) course and must have either completed or be currently enrolled in Income Tax II (ACC 404). In addition, student volunteers must receive VITA training in tax law and electronic filing.

For further information, please contact the Director of Career Opportunities and Internships in the School of Business and Economics at (518) 564-4303. If you would like to know more about the VITA program, please visit the IRS web site at: http://www.irs.gov/.
