Centers & Institutes

Learn more about the centers and institutes at SUNY Plattsburgh.

SUNY Plattsburgh is committed to student success, career preparation, institutional and faculty support, and community outreach. Centers, institutes and clinics contribute to our overall academic excellence and success of our students by providing invigorating research and experiential learning opportunities.

Committed to Student Success

Enriching experiential learning opportunities and internships prepare students for real-world situations. At the Center for Earth and Environmental Science and Lake Champlain Research Institute, for example, students gain valuable insight working with faculty from multiple departments while conducting cutting-edge research and projects. With Autism Intervention Programs, students have the opportunity to make a real difference in our community, helping children with autism spectrum disorders achieve personal goals and monitor progress. In our Speech and Hearing Center, students clinicians work directly with individuals with communication disorders and hearing loss. The Claude J. Clark Learning Center is here to encourage and support students with all of their academic needs.

Institutional & Faculty Support

Faculty and staff benefit from interdisciplinary research and collaboration opportunities. In addition to providing services to persons living with neurocognitive and developmental disabilities, the Center for Neurobehavioral Health also encourages interdisciplinary faculty research to advance our understanding of neurological disorders. The Center for Teaching Excellence provides a community of support and resources to help faculty think creatively about teaching and put pedagogical strategy into action. And, the Early Care and Education Center has been providing quality child care to SUNY Plattsburgh faculty, staff and students since 1985.

Community Outreach

Members of our regional community benefit from clinical services provided at the Center for Neurobehavioral Health, the Ward Hall Counseling Clinic, and the Speech and Hearing Center. Regional small businesses may benefit from the North Country Small Business Development Center and the Center for Cybersecurity and Technology, where students learning to become “cyber warriors” can provide advice on network and software security concerns. Children of all ages can expand their universe at the Northcountry Planetarium, a local staple in space science education and enjoyment since 1964.
