Visual & Performing Arts

SUNY Plattsburgh serves as a cultural center for the creative and performing arts in northern New York and the Champlain Valley region.

Fine Arts

Art is everywhere at SUNY Plattsburgh.

The Plattsburgh Art Museum is comprised of more than 10,000 historic and contemporary works of art, representing a variety of western and non-western cultures from antique to contemporary.

The collections are displayed within our main galleries, a sculpture park, and exhibition areas throughout campus in our Museum Without Walls Program — many contributed by students in our art program.

Music

The music scene at SUNY Plattsburgh is diverse and varied. You can choose from a wide range of courses that include jazz, world music, bluegrass and Western classical traditions.

Additionally, more than 30 annual performances feature student ensembles, guest artists and student/faculty recitals.

Students in interested in our music program — as well as non-music majors that love music — are encouraged to participate in on campus programs such as Cardinal Singers, College Chorale, Jazz Ensemble, Sinfonia and Symphonic Band.

Theatre

The Department of Theatre at SUNY Plattsburgh is a thriving theatrical community. Students across campus can participate in the 3 to 4 yearly mainstage productions along with several other opportunities in staged readings, class productions, and student club performances.

Students interested in our theatre program — as well as non-theatre majors that enjoy theatre — are welcome to participate on and off stage. There are plenty of hand-on experiences both in the classroom and with our co-curricular productions.

Regional Arts and Cultural Activities

In addition to the opportunities that exist on campus, members of the campus community take advantage of our proximity to Burlington, Lake Placid, and Montreal, which are less than an hour away from campus. Plus, the historic Strand Theatre is just down the street from campus, providing great opportunities to catch a show or listen to live music.
