Visual & Performing Arts

SUNY Plattsburgh serves as a cultural center for the creative and performing arts in northern New York and the Champlain Valley region.

Fine Arts

Art is everywhere at SUNY Plattsburgh.

The Plattsburgh Art Museum is comprised of more than 10,000 historic and contemporary works of art, representing a variety of western and non-western cultures from antique to contemporary.

The collections are displayed within our main galleries, a sculpture park, and exhibition areas throughout campus in our Museum Without Walls Program — many contributed by students in our art program.

Music

The music scene at SUNY Plattsburgh is diverse and varied. You can choose from a wide range of courses that include jazz, world music, bluegrass and Western classical traditions.

Additionally, more than 30 annual performances feature student ensembles, guest artists and student/faculty recitals.

Students in interested in our music program — as well as non-music majors that love music — are encouraged to participate in on campus programs such as Cardinal Singers, College Chorale, Jazz Ensemble, Sinfonia and Symphonic Band.

Theatre

SUNY Plattsburgh is home to a thriving theatre community.

If you are interested in the performing arts, you can explore opportunities in acting, production, technical production and many other aspects of theater.

You will be provided opportunities to acquire hands-on experience through the many student-run productions that are hosted on campus and under the direction of the Theatre Department.

Regional Arts and Cultural Activities

In addition to the opportunities that exist on campus, members of the campus community take advantage of our proximity to Burlington, Lake Placid, and Montreal which are less than an hour away from campus. Plus, the historic Strand Theatre is just down the street from campus, providing great opportunities to catch a show or listen to live music.
