Making A Difference
Becoming a community advocate (CA), programming advocate (PA), assistant community director (ACD) or a community director (CD) is a game changer. Leadership, friendship and growth — you’ll get them all.
Our residence halls are staffed with a fun-loving group of students and professional staff. Our goal is to make the halls a safe and welcoming environment. Joining the team will give you real-world skills and you will be trained to help deal with conflict, build community and be a resource to students in your residence halls.
Community Living Positions
Community Advocate (CA)
Each residence hall has at least one CA per floor. CAs are full-time students who act as a liaison between the students living on their floor and the campus community. They help build community by doing a wide range of programming, holding floor meetings and by assisting in keeping the residence halls safe and secure. Many of the students who apply to be CAs are typically leaders and role models on our campus who personify what it means to be a good leader on a college campus and in the surrounding community.
Programming Advocate (PA)
The role of the programming advocate is to develop and facilitate programming efforts geared towards first-year students. The primary role of the programming advocate is to implement creative events that help build community among all first-year students living on-campus.
Assistant Community Director (ACD)
Assistant to the director is an administrative job with some on-call and weekend responsibilities. The ACD assists their assigned community director with administrative functions around the residence halls where they are assigned. This may include driving students to events, organizing equipment and keeping track of funding and programming for their assigned area. Only students with either two years of community living experience or are graduate level can be considered for this position.
Community or Hall Director (CD)
Unlike our CAs, CDs are full-time professional staff. The CD role on campus is to oversee the day-to-day functions of the residence halls. This includes supervising the CAs, acting as liaison for their hall and other campus offices, and helping solve community conflicts. CDs also are the acting advisers to community governments. CDs are also seen as leaders and role models on our campus and surrounding community.
