Why Internships Matter


The goal of an internship is to explore and try out a career path, apply what you are learning in the classroom, enhance your resume by learning a new skill or technology and build confidence and professionalism.

Internships and field experiences within your program of study in the School of Arts and Sciences are designed to prepare you for your future and provide you with opportunities to build transferrable skills that prepare you for a variety of career paths across many industries.

When to Get Started


Start early — you should begin your internship search earlier than you think. Many employers recruit:

  • 3–4 months before a start date
  • A semester in advance
  • Sometimes up to a year ahead
