Criminal Justice Department
Combining Academic Excellence and Professional Experience
Invested in Your Success
Dear Students,
Welcome!
As the chair of this dynamic and forward-thinking department, I am thrilled to warmly welcome each of you. Whether you are a new student embarking on your academic journey or a returning student continuing your studies, we are excited to help you achieve your educational and professional goals.
Our department is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and rigorous education that prepares you for the diverse opportunities within the criminal justice field. Our distinguished faculty bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, offering you unique insights into various aspects of criminal justice. Based on current trends, you will study essential areas such as cybercrime, forensics, criminology, victimology, terrorism, law and the complexities of mental health and substance abuse in the criminal justice system. We are dedicated to fostering a learning environment that emphasizes critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and a deep understanding of the societal impacts of the criminal justice system.
We are excited to introduce two new minors — forensics and digital forensics — to meet the needs and demands of a changing workforce. These minors can be effortlessly integrated into your curriculum, maximizing your existing coursework while offering specialized knowledge. Essentially, as a criminal justice major, you already fulfill most of the prerequisites needed for these minors. You may also be interested in the forensic accounting minor, a joint program with the accounting department.
We will also encourage you to go beyond classroom learning with hands-on internships and participation in various student organizations, such as the Criminal Justice Club, and membership in Alpha Phi Sigma. These experiences are integral to your professional growth and development and are great ways to make lifelong friends.
We also pride ourselves on our inclusive and supportive community. Your diverse perspectives are valued, and you can expect to engage in meaningful discussions about justice, equity and the rule of law. We are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels respected, heard, and empowered to make a positive impact.
Our dedicated faculty members are not only educators but also advisors and mentors who are deeply invested in your success. Please do not hesitate to reach out to them or me personally with any questions, concerns or ideas you may have. We are here to support your academic journey and to help you achieve your career aspirations.
Wishing you a productive and fulfilling semester ahead!
