Sigma Tau Delta — The English Honor Society

SUNY Plattsburgh’s English Honor Society is the Alpha Iota Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society.

To be eligible for membership in Sigma Tau Delta, you must be an English major, an English minor, an adolescence education major with an English concentration, or an childhood education major with an English concentration; and have a 3.0 (B) grade point average both overall and in your English courses.

Benefits of Membership

Membership in Sigma Tau Delta can help you get a good job when you graduate. Since it’s a nationally-recognized sign that you are a good student, it shows employers that you are smart and hardworking. This feature alone draws many students to join Sigma Tau Delta every year.

At SUNY Plattsburgh, the chapter’s most enthusiastic members also become officers: every year, there are openings for president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Becoming an officer not only enhances your resume further but also lets you plan activities that the chapter will fund.

Participate in Memorable Activities

Past activities sponsored by the SUNY Plattsburgh chapter of Sigma Tau Delta include trips to other cities, readings by visiting authors and poets, and of course, the annual Sigma Tau Delta induction banquet.
