“SUNY Plattsburgh’s biggest asset is their faculty. In my experience, the instructors are always eager to help students not only inside the classroom but outside as well. I have also had a positive experience with the U.S. classroom environment. I think it encourages students to think critically and challenges them to learn independently. The most rewarding part of my time here has been my extracurricular activities. I’ve been able to apply knowledge learned in the classroom to the real world, and my experiences in clubs and organizations have helped me excel tremendously in my academics.”

The international student office was really approachable.
The fact that it was close to the Canadian border was also part of the appeal, because that meant that I was not only interacting with people from all over the world who came to study at SUNY Plattsburgh, but I was also being influenced a little bit by the French-Canadian culture.”

“My professors used a variety of methods to teach to help us be successful. With my major in particular, there was a lot of hands-on learning and learning outside of the classroom that I enjoyed. “Carpé diem translates to ‘seize the day.’ This quote has been the driving force of my involvement on campus. I try to seize every opportunity to get to know other people and get to experience all the events on campus. I’ve attended the Involvement Fairs to meet and engage with the over 100 clubs and organizations, joined Honor Societies, and joined the Student Association government, which is my favorite office on campus.”
- Danish R., Pakistan
“Plattsburgh has a wonderful student-to-faculty ratio, which makes it very easy to get one-on-one interactions with professors. Every professor encourages students to use their office hours or to stay at the end of lectures to ask any questions. They not only care about your academic success but also your wellbeing.”
- Vania R., Bolivia
Degree earned: B.S., chemistry (2004)
Involvement at SUNY Plattsburgh: Gospel choir, student admissions ambassador
Further education: M.S. in chemistry and master’s in public health at University of Vermont
Current position: Research technician and project coordinator at the University of Vermont“There is so much more to education and life than just the brand. People were so responsive at the Global Education Office, which was not the case with other universities that I started emailing. Everyone was just so nice. I got to experience New York state, not just as New York City.”

“SUNY Plattsburgh is a place where you make another family — a home away from home. You receive care, respect and a sense of belonging when you arrive. Plattsburgh also increased my knowledge about everything that I wanted to learn in America. Through the college, I got opportunities to go to several conferences and have also presented for SUNY central. Most importantly, working directly with students from all over the world has been the best way to learn with a global perspective.”
- Safa S., India
“In my four years here, the Global Education Office has supported me a lot. Whether it was for my academics, extracurricular activities, or my personal life, they made sure my journey here was smooth.”
- Umi S., Japan
“One of the reasons why I chose SUNY Plattsburgh is that this college offers various majors and courses on topics which you cannot learn about in Japan. I wanted to learn about gender studies when I was in Japan, but Japanese colleges do not have majors or many class options about gender studies as they do here. Also, so many international students from various countries are studying at SUNY Plattsburgh, and I learn about their cultures by having meals, attending events, or talking together. I like the opportunity for cross-cultural communication so much!”
- Beza T., Ethiopia
“The benefit of attending a small, predominantly undergraduate institution like SUNY Plattsburgh is the student’s ability to easily access their professors through office hours or just running into them in the hallway! I started doing research by simply going to my professor’s office and asking. Since then, my personal and professional life has been transformed in a very positive way. Through my work with one of my chemistry professors, I have been able to attend and present at regional and national conferences, win awards from my department and external sources, and receive a paid, competitive summer fellowship that allowed me to gain more research experience beyond Plattsburgh!”
- Le Peng T., Malaysia
“SUNY Plattsburgh’s tuition is lower than most colleges I applied to, yet I have access to dedicated lecturers and an abundance of resources. To make college even more financially affordable, this school is more generous than usual in terms of scholarships. On-campus job opportunities are aplenty, too. The suburban setting also means there is more space for every student — space to wander around, explore and be creative. I may not have the same free space to explore in cities. I spent pretty much my whole life growing up in a city, so I really appreciate the lush surroundings here and the opportunity to roam around freely. I actually prefer to have my class at the furthest spot from my dorm so I can enjoy the sights along the way.”
- Amanogho U., Nigeria
“The SUNY Plattsburgh experience is very exciting. On the first day of orientation, students are met with warm welcomes and assistance with settling down into university life. During the Global Education Office orientation, I learned a lot about U.S. customs and what it would be like living in the U.S. The support didn’t stop at orientation, though. During the semester, students can come in during certain hours every weekday to meet with the staff for assistance and support. The Global Educational Office is always ready to help. Whether you want to see the world or develop yourself, Plattsburgh makes it possible. I believe our school is a good value for its cost.”
- Jahfarie W., Jamaica
“There are a lot of opportunities for growth at SUNY Plattsburgh. The faculty and staff here pull that hidden potential out of you, and you will discover things in yourself that you didn’t know you had. No one here is made to feel less than, and if you are struggling, whether academically or mentally, there is a lot of support here on campus.”
- Perliter W., Dominica
Degree earned: B.S./B.A., international business/Spanish (2006)
Involvement at SUNY Plattsburgh: Gospel choir, Club Caribbean
Further education: M.B.A. at University of Maryland, College Park
Current position: Vice president of accreditation at the Accreditation Council for Independent Colleges and Schools“As a parent, if you pay the tuition out of pocket, SUNY Plattsburgh is a great university.”
