Transfer Credits by Examination
It's common for incoming SUNY Plattsburgh students, especially freshmen, to transfer college credit through an examination program like Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB).
We are experts in evaluating how your scores translate into college credit and apply toward your degree requirements. This information is used to help your academic advisor plan your first semester course schedule that builds upon the knowledge you have already gained.
We make sure the time you have put towards taking college coursework and becoming proficient in various subjects is rewarded.

Credits Earned by Examination
SUNY Plattsburgh awards up to 30 college credits by examination. The admissions office must receive either an official score report or an official high school transcript that lists the examinations completed and scores earned. Credit is generally awarded for the following:
- Advanced Placement (AP) examination scores of '3' or better.
- College Level Examination Program (CLEP) scores of '50' or better.
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level examination scores of '4' or better. IB Diploma recipients will receive 30 credits of lower-division liberal arts courses.
- Dantes Standardized Subject Tests (DSST) credits are accepted but the minimum score needed for credit varies per test.
