Transfer Credits by Examination

Transfer Credits by Examination

It’s common for incoming SUNY Plattsburgh students, especially first-year students, to transfer college credit through an examination program like Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB).

Credits Earned by Examination

SUNY Plattsburgh awards up to 30 college credits by examination. The admissions office must receive either an official score report or an official high school transcript that lists the examinations completed and scores earned. Credit is generally awarded for the following:

  • Advanced Placement (AP) examination scores of ‘3’ or better.
  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP) scores of ‘50’ or better.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level examination scores of ‘4’ or better. IB Diploma recipients will receive 30 credits of lower-division liberal arts courses.
  • DANTES Standardized Subject Tests (DSST) credits are accepted but the minimum score needed for credit varies per test.
