Our students come from diverse communities, backgrounds, cultures and experiences.
We encourage you to participate in academic opportunities, organizations, and events centered on your unique identity. Our campus is proud to be represented by individuals of different ability, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, experiences, and intersectional identities!
- LGBTQ+
SUNY Plattsburgh provides resources to ensure student in the LGBTQ+ community can feel seen, heard and affirmed. We encourage you to showcase your pride. Students who belong to the LGBTQ+ community (or any student who wants to show support!) can join our various clubs, organizations and ally groups.

Resources
- Students of Faith, Religion & Spirituality
SUNY Plattsburgh understands that leaving your home community can be challenging. We aim to make our campus feel like your home away from home. We have several student groups focused on religion and spirituality, as well as groups to help support you throughout your college journey.
Groups & Places of Worship
- Students of all faiths are welcome to use our interfaith prayer room.
- The nearby Newman Center is a Christian-based faith center that focuses on our college community. The space, as well as all services, are welcoming and open to all.
- Hillel is our student-run Jewish club. Our Jewish students are welcome to join services/events free-of-charge at Temple Beth Israel.
- For student who are Muslim, there is dedicated space for salah and our chefs provide halal meals.
- Veterans
We support our veterans and students who are active in the reserves and National Guard. We believe in fostering an environment where you feel welcome and connected to others with similar experiences.
The Veteran Support Office is a peer-run space for our veterans. We offer services and resources to veterans, reserves, National Guard, and their dependents. Veteran work-study positions are available through this office. The office offers lounging space, computers, television, and a printer for our veteran students.

- Diversity Incidents — Bias, Microaggressions & Hate Crimes
SUNY Plattsburgh takes the well-being and safety of our students seriously. Our bias response team, Diversity Inclusion Response Education and Communication Team (DIRECT) oversees the college’s response to targets of diversity incidents; bias, microaggressions and hate crimes. We are sensitized to how these incidents impact the targets and are committed to create an environment that is responsive, equitable and just.
