DIRECT Support for Diversity Incidents, Bias Acts & Hate Crimes

Diversity incidents encompass a broad range of negative behaviors targeting individuals or groups based on actual or perceived characteristics or membership in groups. The ability to easily report incidents and receive needed support is critical to the health and well-being of the campus.

The Diversity Incidents Response Education and Communication Team (DIRECT) oversees the response to individuals or communities who have been affected by diversity incidents. See the DIRECT decision-making chart and descriptions below to learn more.

Diversity incidents may be reported via the online DIRECT reporting form, to any of the team members, or anonymously online through the Silent Witness reporting feature. If at any time your safety and/or the safety of someone else is at risk, contact University Police at 518-564-2022. Responses where appropriate may include referral for investigation and adjudication by University Police, the Title IX office, the Affirmative Action Office or Human Resource Services. Responses may also include passive or active interventions such as facilitated meetings between those who have perpetrated acts and those who have been targeted. These will be arranged on a case-by-case basis. See Scope of Direct Response for more information.

Individuals or communities who have been targeted will be contacted by a DIRECT member to discuss possible responses and options for investigation and adjudication.
