Homecoming, Family Weekend to Offer Full Slate of Events for Current — and Future — Alumni
SUNY Plattsburgh alumni and current students’ families will soon have the chance to meet, mingle and celebrate during the university’s annual Homecoming and Family Weekend Friday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 27.
Activities that begin the weekend include taking in the view of campus from the 10th floor of Kehoe. From noon to 2 p.m., the Office of Admissions will welcome visitors to have a birds-eye view of the Adirondack Mountains of New York and Green Mountains of Vermont. Light refreshments will be served.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Angell College Center lobby, the Global Education Office’s Study Abroad Fair will give current students the chance to explore options for studying in another country or across the United States from their classmates who have had these experiences. Families can find out what programs are available, the benefits of spending a semester or two studying abroad, financial aid options and more. Alumni who have had those experiences are welcome to stop by to share their stories.
Across the Amite Plaza in Myers Fine Arts Building and in Feinberg Library, the Plattsburgh State Art Museum — which includes the Rockwell Kent Gallery, Myers Lobby and Burke galleries, Slatkin Study Room, and the Nina Winkel Sculpture Court — will be open from noon to 4 p.m. for self-guided tours. From 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge, members of the Golden Anniversary Club — those folks who graduated in 1976 or earlier — will be guests at a wine and cheese reception.

- Accessibility Resources Office Alumni Panel, 3 to 5 p.m., 127 Feinberg Library
- Career Development Center Cookies and Careers Open House, 3 to 4:30 p.m., 118 Angell College Center
- Center for Earth and Environmental Science Seminar, Reception and Chili Supper, beginning with a reception at 3 p.m. in front of Hudson Hall
- Presidents’ Reception, 4 to 5 p.m. Myers Fine Arts lobby for invited guests
In addition, the 50th Reunion Class of 1976 Dinner will be held 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center for all members of the honored class. Classmates will be able to catch up and share stories.
Over in the Warren Ballrooms on the second floor of the ACC, the Plattsburgh State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations, will host the annual Cardinal Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026 Dinner and induction, honoring:
- Ashley (Marshall) Lamica ’14: Softball
- Brittany Marshall ’15: Softball and women’s basketball
- Kara (Buehler) Newtown ’12: Women’s ice hockey
- Alyssa Recny ’07: Women’s cross country and track and field
- Patrick Shaughnessy ’13: Baseball and men’s soccer
Alumni, students and their families can gather around the fire pit in the Angell College Center Courtyard from 7 to 9 p.m. for socialization and s’mores, or check out the RhythmetriX Interactive Experience at 7 p.m. in the Flynt Commons, second floor of the college center.
Cardinal Bingo Night follows in the Flynt Commons at 8:30 p.m. Sponsored by Community
Living and Activities Coordination Board, participants will have the chance to win
candy, coupon vouchers and Cardinal merch.
All alumni are welcome at the Homecoming Welcome Back Social downtown at the Monopole, Protection Avenue, at 8:30 p.m. Free wings while supplies last. With live music by the band, Crab Thousand, begins at 10 p.m.
Saturday’s festivities begin with a fraternity and sorority life pancake breakfast from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Nest in the ACC. The breakfast, hosted by the Inter-Sorority Association and the No More Cancer Rally, is free but donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will be accepted. With support from Sodexo/College Auxiliary Services.
Other Saturday events for families, their students and alumni include:
- Guided Nature Walk in Rugar Woods, 10 to 11 a.m. Meet at the front entrance of the field house
- Panel discussion on the impact of AI on higher education, 10 to 11:30 a.m., 123 Au Sable Hall
- Ice skating with Burghy, 10 a.m. to noon, Stafford Ice Arena, field house; limited skate rentals available for a fee
- Campus walking tour, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., meet in the lobby of Memorial Hall
- Lovebirds’ toast and group photo, 11:30 a.m. to noon, at the courtyard between Feinberg Library and Yokum Hall, for those who met their partner at SUNY Plattsburgh or after graduation and are still together.
- Arts and crafts from around the world with SUNY Plattsburgh international students, noon to 2 p.m., Amite Plaza and Angell College Center courtyard (rain site: Inside the ACC), with henna, origami, writing names in another alphabet and more
- Cornhole with Theta Gamma, 1 to 4 p.m., Angell College Center courtyard
- Education alumni, friends and family gathering, 2 to 3:30 p.m., Chapter One, Sibley Hall
Alumni, friends and family can gather from noon to 3 p.m. in the Amite Plaza and ACC
courtyard, for the university’s Fall Festival and Biergarten. The family-friendly
event will feature vendors and food trucks, pumpkin painting, lawn games, face painting,
a live DJ and more. The student-run bike shop Biketopia will have bicycles available
for rent, and for those over 21, the biergarten will be set up in the courtyard with
food and adult beverages. ID required.
Families, students, alumni and friends will have the chance to join SUNY Plattsburgh President Alexander Enyedi from 5:30 to 7 p.m., for Homecoming and Family Weekend homestyle dinner. The evening includes a chance to win a basket of Cardinal merch as well as presentations of the Robert M. Garrow ’52 Alumni Service Award to Kim Scalzo ’89, the Distinguished Alumni Award to Dr. Brian M. Freed ’76 G’78, and the Off to a Good Start Alumni Award to Brandon Mitchell ’17.
Afterwards, over in the Flynt Commons, the alt-country Jared Stout Band will perform. And then, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., gather with fellow alumni, family, faculty, staff and community members for the annual Homecoming and Family Weekend bonfire. Music and seasonal treats will be featured. Bonfire is weather-permitting.
Those energetic enough can rise and shine Sunday morning for the annual 5K Fun Run and Walk along the Saranac River Trail and down Rugar Street, through the heart of campus. Check-in is at 8:15 a.m. The weekend ends with the Homecoming and Family Weekend Farewell Brunch from 9 to 11 a.m. in Clinton Dining Hall, featuring a wide variety of breakfast foods that then transition to brunch and then lunch fare later in the morning.
