    Kathleen Camelo, M.D. – Director of the SHCC

    Kathy CameloClinical Background: Biology, B.S. from Le Moyne College; M.D. from SUNY Buffalo; family practice residency from United Health Services at Johnson City, N.Y.; board-certified family medicine. Receiver of the Chancellor's Award

    Clinical interests: Transgender hormonal therapy, mental health & dermatology

    Fun Fact: In college, I held a summer job as an elf at Santa’s Workshop at Whiteface Mountain!

    Joanne Astill, M.D. – Part-time Psychiatrist

    Joanne AstillClinical Background: Graduated from the University of Leicester, (U.K.), with M.B., Ch.B. (M.D.); completed an internal medicine residency, University of Leicester; then a psychiatric residency at The Medical College of Pa., Philadelphia; fellowship in consultation liaison psychiatry at UVM; board-certified in psychiatry.

    Clinical Interests: Mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, mental health issues in the medically ill, and the effects of physical illness on mental wellbeing.

    Fun Fact: I am an open-wheeled racing fan, love to bake muffins and drink tea!

    Deirdre Schaefer, D.O. – College Physician

    Deirdre SchaeferClinical Background: Biology , B.S. from Ithaca College;  D.O., medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine; general rotating internship from United Health Services at Johnson City, N.Y.; pediatric residency from Geisinger Medical Center at Danville, Pa.; board-certified in pediatrics

    Clinical Interests: Dermatology, infectious disease

    Fun fact: I grew up in Jackson Heights, N.Y. which is considered one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the country. I am also a Gold Award Girl Scout!

    Harvey Hurwitz, M.D. – Per Diem Physician

     

    Harvey HurwitzClinical Background: Biology, B.S. from Boston College, summa cum laude; M.D. from Boston University, cum laude; general medical officer United States Air Force; internal medicine residency at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. Board-certified internal medicine; practitioner internal medicine; teacher and director of medicine, Westchester County, New York.

    Clinical Interests: Disease prevention; benefit of a personal health diary; whole foods, plant-based nutrition and its effect on health; benefits of meditation and mindfulness.

    Fun Fact: Played popular music for musicals and weddings; loved ballroom dancing
