Streamlined Advice for All Respiratory Viruses Updated for Fall 2024
If possible, stay home and away from others if you have symptoms of a respiratory virus. Symptoms of respiratory viruses such as RSV, flu and COVID include fever (a temperature of 100.4 F/38.0 C or greater), cough, runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat, fatigue and headache. You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours:
- Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
- You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medications)
When you return to your normal activities, take added precautions over the next 5 days, such as physical distancing, wearing a mask and good hand hygiene. Read more about the CDC’s respiratory guidance
Mpox Information
The Student Health & Counseling Center is closely tracking the global outbreak of mpox, which continues to spread in the United States and New York State. We work closely with the Clinton County Health Department to ensure that we have the latest information and guidance, and we are ready to provide medical support if needed.
Prevention is Key
- Mpox is not nearly as contagious as COVID-19, but care should be taken to avoid or limit direct physical contact with individuals who have contracted mpox or who may have been exposed.
- Students who develop symptoms, or have reason to believe they have been exposed, should contact the health center: 518-564-2187 or [email protected]
- Vaccination is an important tool in stopping the spread of mpox. Learn more about the 2-dose vaccine and who should be vaccinated.
