Shine On!

The Shine On! practicum is an organization of SUNY Plattsburgh women housed in the public relations department who mentor local elementary school girls. With a goal of building a community of resilient, confident girls, you would teach marketing and media literacy, communication skills and character strengths.

Shine On’s! latest project was a collaboration with NASA to build STEM awareness and character strengths for almost 6,500 elementary students across NYS through a downlink with the International Space Station in a day-long conference entitled Reach For The Stars.

SUNY Plattsburgh’s Shine On! program has touched 8,400+ elementary students with the help of over 600 college women. In 2017, it was awarded the national Higher Education Civic Engagement Award from The Washington Center.

“When I look back on my college years, a major source of happiness, growth, and fulfillment was my time with Shine On! I try to live my life by embodying the character strengths that we taught to the girls. I’ll never forget the people I met and the memories I made in those two years!”

Cardinal PR

Cardinal PR is a student-run public relations agency that works with local clients. You will create campaigns by researching, strategizing, managing social and traditional media and planning events.

Cardinal PR has collaborated with dozens of clients over the years, including Hannah’s Hope Fund where they helped secure a $250,000 Pepsi Refresh Everything Grant; Mission of Hope, which supports underprivileged children in Nicaragua, and ran a $25,000 Million-Can Redemption Plan for the Ted K Center, a local non-profit which provides social, educational, and recreational services to Plattsburgh families.

PRSSA

PRSSA is the national student society that falls under the parent organization PRSA. It seeks to connect young professionals with educational, internship, and leadership opportunities, as well as provide networking to those in the public relations and communication professions. There are 300+ PRSSA chapters in the United States.

Members of SUNY Plattsburgh’s PRSSA chapter often attend both regional and national conferences. Students traveled to the Boston District Conference in 2020. View a recap of their weekend.
