You will participate in class, communicate with professors, and submit assignments in an online environment that allows you the opportunity to choose a convenient time and place. Our online courses follow an academic schedule and should not be considered self-paced. You will be most successful if you begin participating on the first day of class and set realistic goals according to your course schedule.

Your SUNY Plattsburgh instructor designs, develops, and delivers your course. You might never interact face-to-face with your instructor or any of your fellow classmates, but you will quickly discover that each individual participant contributes to the creation of a diverse and dynamic learning experience.

For Brightspace courses: From the MyPlattsburgh portal, click on the Brightspace icon (orange circle with a B). Or, simply type brightspace.plattsburgh.edu in the address field in your web browser. If you are unable to find your course in Brightspace, click on the trouble block and submit a trouble ticket. If you cannot log into Brightspace at all, contact the Helpdesk at 518-564-4433. 

For Blackboard courses: The best way to get to your Blackboard course is to simply type classroom.suny.edu in the address field in your web browser and log in using your Plattsburgh credentials.

LMS stands for “Learning Management System.” It is the software that delivers your online course.

Appropriate links to instructor contact information can be found by browsing current online courses.

Information on course-withdrawal procedures is available from the registrar. The process for withdrawing from an online course does not differ from any other course. The first individual who should be notified of your intent to withdraw is your instructor. You will also be required to submit the appropriate information to the registrar’s office. Tuition liability is based on the date of course withdrawal. Contact the registrar’s office to obtain the appropriate form.
