Registration holds must be cleared to access course registration. Review your holds in advance. If you do not have current registration holds a message of “No holds exist on your record” will appear beneath the instructions. 

Admissions (AH) holds: Admission’s office ([email protected])

CAS Debt (CS) holds: College Auxiliary Services (518-564-5182)

Felony Questionnaire hold: “Student” tab of the MyPlattsburgh portal, under the “Registrar” heading: Felony Questionnaire. JoAnn Gleeson-Kreig, associate vice president for academic affairs at [email protected], (518-564-2195)

Graduation Hold: Placed by the registrar’s office to prevent graduation applicants from making registration adjustments that may impact eligibility. This hold only impacts registration options, no action necessary. If your graduation date has changed, please send an email (using your campus account) to [email protected] so your record can be updated and the hold lifted.

Immunization/meningitis (IM/MN) holds: Student Health Center [email protected] (518-564-2187)

Library (LI) holds: Library (518-564-5182); Interlibrary Loans (518-564-5301)

Nursing Department (ND) holds: Nursing Department (518-564-3124).

Registrar (RH) holds: Registrar’s office ([email protected])

Semester address (LO) holds: Require students to enter their local addresses directly into Banner by accessing the personal menu, updating local address (use drop-down arrow), and by submitting changes; the hold will lift automatically.

Telecommunication (TE) holds: Telecommunication office (518-564-7975)

1. Click here for the registration menu.
2. Click on “Register for Classes”
3. Select the Term for which you would like to register and enter your PIN if prompted. This is the code you received from your department.
4. Click “Continue”
5. If you receive an error message based upon a hold, follow the instructions under How to Clear Registration Holds.
6. To search for a course, enter Subject and Course Number and click “Search”. You may also select “Advanced Search” to enter more specific course search criteria. 
7. The “Status” column, will list the remaining seats available or a FULL status for the section. If the waitlist is available, it will also be indicated here.
8. Click “Add” next to the desired course(s).
9. Click “Search Again” to return to the Advanced Search and enter next course search criteria
10. Complete your course schedule, scroll down to select “Submit” in the bottom right corner of the page.
11. Review the information at the bottom of the page under “Summary” to review your schedule.
12. Errors preventing registration will pop up on the top right of the screen and the status in the “Summary” section will be “Errors Preventing Registration”. Common registration errors and their meanings can be seen under Registration Error Messages.
13. If the status in the class summary is “Registered” you have successfully registered for that class.
14. If the class is full, you may change the status from “Remove” to “Wait List” and click “Submit” to add yourself to the waitlist.
15. To drop a course in the ‘Summary’ area (on PC: bottom right hand corner of the screen, on mobile device: tab across the middle of the screen), select ‘Web Drop’ from the dropdown for the course you would like to drop. Click Submit.
16. Click Panels at the bottom left of the search results block, to see course day/time on class schedule for the term, on the “Schedule” tab.
17. Click “Schedule Detail” tab, to see course term dates, titles, number of credits, instructor, location and more.

After course add/drop ends students must complete a Course Schedule Adjustment Form for a late course add or course withdrawal.

• Approval Required: Registration restricted until student obtains permission to register from the respective department chairperson or coordinator of special program.
• Campus Restriction: Only students located at a specific location may register. Some courses are restricted for matriculated, undergraduate students attending the SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury campus. These restricted courses may be offered at the Adirondack Community College or Hudson Valley Community College sites.
• Class Level Restriction: Only students at a specific class level are allowed to register. Class levels are freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors (upper/lower levels) and graduates.
• Closed Course: Course enrollment is at maximum capacity. Students are encouraged to waitlist on closed courses. Students must obtain the department chairperson’s approval to add a closed course. If approval is granted, the department chair enters an approval code. The student is still responsible for registering for the course.
• Co-requisite: If a course has a co-requisite, the courses must be added simultaneously to permit registration (e.g., BIO101A lecture and BIO101LA lab).
• Degree Restriction: Only students in specific degree programs may register.
• Instructor or Chair Approval: Students must obtain the approval to add this course. If approval is granted, by the instructor or department chairperson, a approval code will be entered. The student is still responsible for registering for the course.
• Level Restriction: Only students in a specific level (undergraduate or graduate) are allowed to register. All graduate courses (500 level) have been coded with a graduate-level registration restriction.
• Major Restriction: Only students in a specific major may register. Most major restrictions are defined in the prerequisites for courses. If not, contact the respective academic department should you have questions.
• Prerequisite: Student has not completed prerequisites for a course. Click on the course link to view course description and prerequisite requirements. If the description states “Felony Questionnaire Required” you can go to https://www.plattsburgh.edu/felony for more information and to fill out the questionnaire.
• Reserved: Seats reserved for specific group registrations such as Learning Communities, SSS/EOP/ESL students, incoming students. Students are encouraged to waitlist on courses with reserved seats.
• SR: Need assigned time ticket to register. Contact registrar’s office.
• Time Conflict: Two or more courses are scheduled to meet during the same time.
