Title IX Events

In January, the campus offers awareness and prevention programming and resources related to stalking. Stalking is defined by Title IX federal law as “engaging in a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to: (A) Fear for the person’s safety or the safety of others; or (B) Suffer substantial emotional distress.”

Every March, collaborative programming is organized by the Title IX Office and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in partnership with other campus offices to inspire appreciation and celebration of women’s history and women’s rights. Examples of some of the programming offered in March includes:

•  International Women’s Day
•  Gender and Women’s Studies events
•  Film Screenings
•  Trans Day of Visibility

Every April, the campus honors Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (#SAAPM). Collaborative programming is organized by the Title IX Office and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion aimed at solidarity for survivors, prevention education, and awareness efforts to educate our campus community on how to practice affirmative consent and how to support someone who discloses harm from a sexual experience. Examples of of some of the programming offered in April includes:

•  The Neurobiology of Trauma
•  Gender and Women’s Studies events
•  Sexual Violence Awareness Panel
•  Denim Day Campaign
•  Take Back the Night

Every October, the campus honors Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Collaborative programming is organized by the Title IX Office and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion aimed at solidarity for survivors, prevention education, and awareness efforts to education our campus community on how to recognize the signs of interpersonal and intimate partner violence, dating violence, and domestic violence and how to support someone who discloses an experience of harm. Examples of of some of the programming offered in October includes:

• The Clothesline Project
• Wear Purple Day
• Resources from the NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence

Inspired by the One Love Foundation, our SUNY Plattsburgh #LoveBetter Campaign aims to highlight the healthy behaviors and unhealthy behaviors that impact relationships, including intimate partners, friendships, teammates, families, co-workers and more.
