There are many financial institutions in the United States, each with unique policies, procedures and charges.
If you would like to open a bank account, it is important to research the financial institution to fit your needs. There are a number of local banks that are popular with our students.

During orientation week, you will have the opportunity to determine which bank best fits your financial needs.
We strongly encourage students to discuss their banking needs in person with bank representatives.
Required Documents for Opening a Bank Account
Make sure you have the following documents with you when you go to the bank:
- Passport (unexpired)
- I-20 or DS-2019
- I-94 (can be printed from Department of Homeland Security)
- Plattsburgh ID card
- Printed copy of acceptance letter or email
You cannot open a bank account without these documents. Please stop by the Global Education Office if you need assistance.
