Special Grants for NYC Students
If you are set to graduate from a high school in one of the five New York City boroughs, you may be able to significantly reduce your costs with a $3,500 scholarship or $1,500 grant from SUNY Plattsburgh.
Cardinal NYC Scholarship
- Graduate from a high school in a New York City county: Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), New York (Manhattan), Queens or Richmond (Staten Island).
- Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or other eligible non-citizen who pays the in-state tuition rate.
- Awarded to students with a high school average of 90 or higher, or the highest combination of academic excellence and extracurricular achievement.
- Graduate from high school in June 2024 or January 2025 and be accepted for admission to SUNY Plattsburgh.
- Pay a $250 deposit before beginning your first year.
- Attend full-time beginning in August 2024 or January 2025, taking 12 or more credits.
- Live on campus.
- Applicants to our nursing program are not eligible for the Cardinal NYC Scholarship.
- The Cardinal NYC Scholarship of $3,500 per year is deducted from non-tuition educational costs. That’s $1,750 per semester.
- Applicants to our nursing program are eligible for the Cardinal Nursing Scholarship, not the Cardinal NYS Scholarship.
Students must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average in each fall or spring semester to which the scholarship applies. Students may receive the scholarship for up to eight semesters of consecutive full-time study. One probationary semester is available if the student falls below cumulative GPA. If the student does not satisfy all the standards at the end of this probationary semester or in any future semester, the student becomes permanently ineligible for the award in future semesters. Students who need to withdraw may maintain eligibility under certain circumstances.
