Assistant Professor of Biological Science
I research the organization and neurobiology of visual systems across all animals. Doing this kind of broad-scale comparative research allows us to better understand the role that vision plays in an animal’s everyday life. For example, my students and I have discovered that small, predatory songbirds have hawk-like eyes, we have identified which types of visual systems are most susceptible to light pollution, and even discovered a new type of photoreceptor in the eyes of flycatchers.
