Ben Wright

Technical Director & Adjunct Lecturer of Theatre

Ben Wright received his B.A. in Theatre from the University of Vermont. During his coursework, he became a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (Local 919 out of Burlington, Vermont) in 1989. After the completion of his degree in 1991, Ben participated in union stage work for roughly eight years, two of which he spent in Chicago. The bulk of his work experience has involved local venues in Vermont and New York, particularly the Flynn Center Theatre in Burlington.

Ben’s responsibilities here at SUNY Plattsburgh include constructing scenery, training students in various aspects of technical theatre, establishing strict health and safety standards, and maintaining the theatre facilities which include: a proscenium theatre complete with a counterweight rigging system; a large, well outfitted scene shop; a 2,000 square foot studio theatre with a dance floor; and various other support areas.

Ben would like to be sure that prospective students recognize the many and varied technical theatre opportunities that SUNY Plattsburgh has to offer. Motivated students can create personalized opportunities for themselves. They are encouraged to advocate and pursue the production of shows that interest them. There is extensive opportunity for hands-on experience in virtually every aspect of theatre. If you put in the effort, you can make anything happen here.
