Dr. Colin Fuss

Assistant Professor of Environmental Science

I am a biogeochemist with a focus on how soils and nutrient cycles—especially in northern forests—respond to environmental change. This is important to understanding current and future ecosystem function. Much of my research has centered on how soil processes influence forest health and the water quality of associated streams, including:

  • atmospheric acid deposition and its effects on soil and stream chemistry
  • winter climate change and the effects on soil hydrology and carbon and nutrient retention
  • forest regrowth and patterns of nitrogen retention
  • changing forest species composition and the effects on carbon and nitrogen dynamics in soils
