Employee/Student Identification Card Policy

Identify the Cardinal Card as the official SUNY Plattsburgh identification card to be used by faculty/staff/students.

 Review Process / Approval

Employees including state, research, college auxiliary service, student association, child care center, food service and other individuals approved by Human Resource Services as well as all enrolled SUNY Plattsburgh students.

Cardinal Card: Official SUNY Plattsburgh Identification Card

CAS: College Auxiliary Services located in Clinton Dining Hall (564-2035 or 564-3083)

HRS: Human Resource Services located in Kehoe 910

The Cardinal Card is a multipurpose, video-imaged identification card with electronic verification capability. The Cardinal Card provides access to student residence halls, academic buildings and classrooms, meal plans, library service, Cardinal Cash, and fitness center. Cardinal Cards are required for all students, faculty and staff, and must be presented for all card transactions.

Employees may obtain their Cardinal Card after Human Resource Services receives appropriate authorization of an employment/affiliate relationship with SUNY College at Plattsburgh. The individual will be issued a temporary ID card which is then presented at the CAS office in Clinton Dining Hall where the individual’s photograph is taken for the Cardinal Card.

Employees are required to have their Cardinal Card available while at work.  Employees that enter other work or residential spaces on campus should be prepared to show their Cardinal Card upon request.   Prominently displaying your ID card is preferred.

Cardinal Cards are provided for appropriate identification use and access to buildings and services.  The card is not transferable and is valid as long as the holder continues his/her specific affiliation with the College.  A Cardinal Card is to be used only by the person to whom it is issued. Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately (see Appendix). 

Offices or college personnel finding Cardinal Cards should immediately send them to the CAS Office in Clinton Hall. 

The Cardinal Card may be presented as collateral for official college business ONLY. College offices accepting Cardinal Card as collateral must have a lockbox to secure cards and notify cardholder within twenty-four hours if Cardinal Card has not been picked-up. After forty-eight hours the Cardinal Card must be delivered to CAS. The Cardinal Card must be secured at all times and never should be left unattended, or unsecured in a lockbox.
