Cardinal Card: Official SUNY Plattsburgh Identification Card

CAS: College Auxiliary Services located in Clinton Dining Hall (564-2035 or 564-3083)

The Cardinal Card is a multipurpose, video-imaged identification card with electronic verification capability. The Cardinal Card provides access to student residence halls, academic buildings and classrooms, meal plans, library service, Cardinal Cash, and fitness center. Cardinal Cards are required for all students, faculty and staff, and must be presented for all card transactions.

Employees may obtain their Cardinal Card after Human Resource & Payroll Services receives appropriate authorization of an employment/affiliate relationship with the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. The individual will be issued a temporary ID card which is then presented at the CAS office in Clinton Dining Hall where the individual’s photograph is taken for the Cardinal Card.

Employees are required to have their Cardinal Card available while at work. Employees that enter other work or residential spaces on campus should be prepared to show their Cardinal Card upon request. Prominently displaying your ID card is preferred.

The Cardinal Card must be presented or surrendered upon request of a duly authorized University official, including but not limited to residence hall staff, University Police, Enrollment Student Success staff, and students, contractors, or other staff authorized by the University to supervise campus events, activities, and residence halls. Individuals may be required to reveal their faces to confirm identity when needed to maintain campus safety or security. Upon request, students must show all identifying information shown on the card and/or surrender the card to the requesting official.

Intentional refusal to present or surrender a student identification card upon request by a University official; alteration or falsification of data on an identification card; creation and/or distribution of falsified identification cards; using an identification card to impersonate others; or refusal to reveal one’s face to confirm identity; are violations of this policy and may result in disciplinary action.

Cardinal Cards are provided for appropriate identification use and access to buildings and services. The card is not transferable and is valid as long as the holder continues his/her specific affiliation with the University. A Cardinal Card is to be used only by the person to whom it is issued. Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately (see Appendix).

Offices or University personnel finding Cardinal Cards should immediately send them to the CAS Office in Clinton Hall.

The Cardinal Card may be presented as collateral for official University business ONLY. University offices accepting Cardinal Card as collateral must have a lockbox to secure cards and notify cardholder within twenty-four hours if Cardinal Card has not been picked-up. After forty-eight hours the Cardinal Card must be delivered to CAS. The Cardinal Card must be secured at all times and never should be left unattended, or unsecured in a lockbox.
