The establishment of university policy is intended to facilitate the effective and efficient delivery of education and related services to our students, parents, and members of the community.
To accomplish this objective, it is necessary to treat every employee of the University in a fair and consistent manner; to establish, to the best of our ability, safe, clean working conditions; and provide a workplace, equipment and materials appropriate for the task at hand.
It is acknowledged that the campus, in great part, is made up of public spaces. For this reason, it is often difficult to differentiate between the truly public areas and those spaces which are workspaces.
Nevertheless, the workplace is intended to be devoted to the principles described above and in those workspaces the presence of animals not devoted to accomplishing these objectives is disruptive, non-hygienic and potentially
unsafe. Therefore, it is the policy of SUNY Plattsburgh, to prohibit bringing personal pets or other animals into the workplace.Exceptions:
- Service animals that are individually trained to perform specific tasks for an employee or visitor with a disability are permitted on campus, in accordance with applicable federal and state laws (such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, ADA).
- Animals used by law enforcement.
- Emotional Support/Assistance Animals for students in campus housing, with prior approval from the Accessibility Resources Office (ARO).
- Animals used in authorized artistic performances on campus.
