Many members of the SUNY Plattsburgh community, in addition to their workplace obligations have young children for whom they are primarily responsible. We recognize that, in spite of best efforts, it is sometimes impossible to secure adequate childcare, particularly for school-aged children when local primary schools are not in session. It may therefore be irregularly and unavoidably necessary for employees to bring their children to campus and into the classroom, which would be more of a disservice to the students and the college than the presence of a child. Therefore, in addition to special programs such as Take Your Child to Work Day, children may, infrequently and irregularly, be in the workplace. In such cases, the employee should notify their immediate supervisor of the presence of the child. In these cases, the parent must be aware that he or she assumes full responsibility for both the well being of the child and the adequate completion of his or her professional duties.
