SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Help children and adolescents succeed academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally.

School Psychology Master’s & Certificate of Advanced Study

The mission of the school psychology M.A./C.A.S. Program at SUNY Plattsburgh is to prepare competent scientist practitioners to provide a full range of school psychological services.

You will be prepared to work with diverse clients in the provision of these services to schools, communities, families and individual children. It is the graduate program’s objective to provide a rigorous academic preparation that includes a wide range of experiences, both scholarly and practical. These activities are designed to foster a strong background in theoretical and applied psychological practice, professionalism and to enhance opportunities for future employment and/or further graduate education.

What Will I Learn?

School psychology graduate students earn the M.A./C.A.S. in school psychology. Our National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) fully accredited program provides carefully focused knowledge and training in school psychology, following the scientist-practitioner model. Students work closely with individual faculty members and become eligible for New York state and national certification in school psychology.

What is Unique About Our Program?

  • State and national certification. After successful completion of our program, you are eligible to apply for New York state certification in school psychology. Our program is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) with full accreditation through 2028, which makes you eligible to apply to become a nationally certified school psychologist (NCSP).
  • Faculty. Our program has knowledgeable and supportive faculty and an excellent faculty-to-student ratio (1:10).
  • Immediate school placement. Our graduate students have a school placement (practicum site) beginning in the first semester, so professional and applied training is available from the start.
  • Opportunities in the Center for Neurobehavioral Health. The Center for Neurobehavioral Health is comprised of several clinics and is housed in a brand new facility. Graduate students have opportunities for training in the Neuropsychology Clinic and Psychoeducational Services and in the Nexus Program, a social competence program for children with autism spectrum disorders.
