• Last name A through K  — 9 a.m. to noon

Academic Onboarding & Matriculation

Today is about getting you comfortable with the academic part of your experience here. You’ll learn about your major, discover support resources, and get tips for your first day, week, and semester. There will also be a couple optional academic events on Friday afternoon.

Welcome To Academic Life

9:30 a.m. Class Picture — Pose with your classmates for a drone photo of the incoming class. Behind Memorial Hall

10 a.m. Matriculation Ceremony — Mark the official start of your academic career at SUNY Plattsburgh. Free Plattsburgh planners for all in attendance. Memorial Hall Gymnasium

11 a.m. Academic Department Meetings — Meet with some of the faculty, major advisors, and other new students in your academic department. Get a feel for what opportunities exist in your major and how to best succeed in it. You will be escorted by the departments from matriculation to department meeting places.

Lunch Break — On your own timing or with others you just met, enjoy lunch in Clinton Dining Hall. Students on meal plans swipe your ID card. If you are not on a meal plan, you are our guest for lunch!

12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Cardinal Quest — Visit the offices and friendly staff who are here to support your academic success. Learn quick tips for navigating college for the first time, get important college knowledge about university resources, and enjoy some snacks and swag along the various stops.

Complete the quest for a chance to win awesome prizes. Self-guided to various locations across campus (refer to your Cardinal Quest pass)

Schedule Questions & Walk Your Schedule

Noon to 3 p.m. Course Schedule Adjustment — Attend this optional drop-in session if you need to adjust your course schedule. Staff will be on hand to answer most of your scheduling questions, and see that you are fully registered. Feinberg 1st floor computer classrooms and lab.

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Walk Your Schedule — Make your way around campus, find your classrooms and other great spaces and places. Main campus academic buildings

Join SUNY Plattsburgh Counseling Services for a conversation for parents, family members and other support people of incoming students. We’ll discuss what many students experience during the transition to college, ways to support healthy independence and resilience and how to encourage connection and belonging on campus. We’ll also highlight campus resources that can help students navigate challenges and stay engaged.

Success in college is about more than just earning good grades — it’s about developing the skills to manage life, solve problems and achieve your goals. The Access To Learning & Academic Success (A.T.L.A.S.) program helps students build the executive functioning skills needed to succeed, including organization, time management, planning and self-advocacy. All are welcome to learn about our Career Life Planning courses that help students learn how to apply these skills to everyday real-world situations.  

At A.T.L.A.S. we don’t look to just help students succeed, we help them to build a solid foundation for their future!
