Penny McQuinn, M.S.W., LCSW

Penny McQuinn is a lecturer and field director at SUNY Plattsburgh, where she designs, develops and delivers social work curriculum across various platforms. She is dedicated to fostering student success by advising and mentoring students, cultivating partnerships with practicum sites, and engaging in service projects. With a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) from the University at Albany (2013) and a B.A. in Psychology from Southern Wesleyan University (2001), Penny brings extensive academic and professional expertise to her teaching and fieldwork.

Her professional background spans diverse clinical roles, including serving as a clinical supervisor at Behavioral Health Services North and a licensed clinical social worker at Canton Potsdam Hospital Behavioral Health Services, where she provided psychotherapy and treatment planning for individuals, couples, and families. In addition to her clinical practice, she maintains a private practice offering psychotherapy services.

Prior to her current academic role, Penny held positions such as psychotherapist at Samaritan Counseling Center of the Capital Region and social worker at Alice Hyde Medical Center. She has worked across a wide spectrum of populations, from children and adolescents in school settings to adults with chronic illness and mental health diagnoses. Her experience in case management, group facilitation, and interdisciplinary collaboration has informed her pedagogical approach, integrating real-world insights into her curriculum.

Penny is passionate about clinical social work and is committed to improving mental health services and outcomes for individuals and families. She continually strives to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application, ensuring that her students are well-prepared for impactful careers in social work.
