Drew Goerlitz


Associate Professor of Art

Drew Goerlitz joined the faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2005. After receiving a B.A. from SUNY Plattsburgh in 2000, he received his M.F.A. in sculpture from University of Maryland in 2003. That same year he was awarded the International Sculpture Center’s Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award.

During Goerlitz’s tenure at SUNY Plattsburgh he has had many national and international solo exhibitions, large-scale outdoor sculpture exhibitions, and group exhibitions. Goerlitz has collaborated with Associate Professor Ali Della Bitta on three commissioned large-scale projects. He also has had nine artist residencies both nationally and internationally. Goerlitz creates a large amount of his work in coordination with Art-St-Urban, his gallery in Switzerland.

Goerlitz currently teaches all levels of sculpture, which includes 3-D Design, Introduction to Sculpture, and Advanced Sculpture. As an educator, Goerlitz finds it important to create an engaging classroom and encourages his students to participate in outside projects, workshops, artist lectures, internships, and artist residencies. He finds this to be an invaluable ingredient to a students’ success.
