Employees cannot allow any Law Enforcement Officer to conduct a search on university property without a valid search warrant signed by a Judge.  Anyone identifying themselves as a Law Enforcement Officer with a warrant should be asked to show official identification and provide a copy of the warrant.  Employees should immediately notify University Police at 518-564-2022 of the situation. SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Office of General Counsel have the right to review the warrant and keep a copy of it.  If the affidavit in support of the warrant is not attached, the employee being served should ask for a copy.

Destruction of Evidence — No employee is to destroy SUNY Plattsburgh records until the date specified and in accordance with SUNY Plattsburgh’s record retention and destruction policy.

Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer in the lawful exercise of his/her duties, including execution of a warrant, is a crime. Involved employees may sometimes be permitted to observe the course of the search, but should not interfere.
