SUNY Plattsburgh is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified students with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, applicable federal and New York State law, and SUNY policy. Attendance flexibility and assignment deadline flexibility may be approved as reasonable accommodations when disability-related experiences intermittently prevent class attendance or timely submission of coursework.
The Accessibility Resources Office (ARO) is the sole office authorized to:
- Review disability documentation
- Determine eligibility for accommodations
- Facilitate the interactive process
- Approve and formally communicate accommodations to faculty
Approved accommodations shall be implemented unless doing so would constitute a fundamental alteration of essential course requirements, of which the final determination of such is made by the ARO. Determinations regarding reasonableness shall be made through an individualized, interactive process involving ARO and the faculty member of record.
Accommodations become effective upon issuance of an official accommodation letter from ARO and are not retroactive. - 5.0 Definitions
