WQKE Sponsors "Starve-A-Thon" for Plattsburgh Food Shelf
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ WQKE "The Quake" (93.9 FM), the student-run radio station at Plattsburgh State University of New York, will hold a Starve-A-Thon Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25 and 26 to collect canned goods for the Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf.
Thirteen members of the radio station will go without eating until they collect 939 cans of food.
Station members will collect cans of food beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday in front of the Angell College Center at Plattsburgh State and at the Champlain Centers North Mall. The station collected more than a 1,000 cans last year at one location in just over eight hours.
Kristy Kennedy and James Chiapone of "The Quake" said they hope to collect enough canned goods for the upcoming Thanksgiving season.
"We want to stock up the food shelf with lots of goodies," said Kennedy and Chiapone. "We will be accepting canned goods all day and all night, and at night the cans will be collected at the radio station in Yokum Hall."
Kennedy and Chiapone said the radio station will have music and giveaways on hand at their locations. For more information, contact WQKE at 564-2727.
