Menotti Opera 'Amahl and the Night Visitors' to be Staged in Giltz Auditorium


The Department of Music presents a fully staged production of "Amahl and the Night Visitors" Friday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.

This one-act opera, sung in English, tells the story of a young boy and his mother, who open their small house to the Three Kings en route to Bethlehem. Full of humor, joy, and tenderness, Menotti's opera will touch the hearts of audiences of all ages. Collaborating with Adirondack Dance Company, the all-student cast is drawn from SUNY Plattsburgh College Chorale and Cardinal Singers.

Only 45 minutes long, this production is a perfect family activity that merges music, theater and the visual arts.The production is headed by a SUNY Plattsburgh faculty team, many of whom have collaborated in some combination on a number of previous productions: the "Madrigal Dinner 1504," numerous musicals, including "Chicago" and "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," and previous productions of "Amahl." This new production includes fresh sets and costumes.

Tickets are $8 general admission, $5 SUNY Plattsburgh faculty, staff, seniors and non-SUNY Plattsburgh students, and $2 SUNY Plattsburgh students with ID.
