Mark Rabin Golf Tourney to Include Hole-in-One, Sledgehammer Putting Contests
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (July 6, 2010) -- The 6th Annual Mark Rabin Memorial Golf Tournament, organized by the SUNY Plattsburgh School of Business and Economics, will be held Wednesday, Aug.18, at the Westport Country Club.
The shotgun tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. Dinner and awards will begin at 6:15 p.m.
The tournament is a four-person scramble and is open to the public with a maximum of 144 players. School of Business and Economics students and graduates are especially welcome to play in the event. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Plattsburgh College Foundation. An endowed Mark Rabin Memorial Scholarship in Marketing has been established with the proceeds from the previous five tournaments.
Prior to the shotgun start, a new Sledgehammer Putting Contest will begin at 10:45 a.m., with a hand-crafted wooden sledgehammer putter donated by renowned woodworker Linda Fortsch going to the winner.
Both the Sledgehammer Putting Contest and the Hole-in-One Contest are being sponsored by Shumway Insurance Agency. Hole-in-One prizes include $5,000, $500 VISA cards, Bose Wave Music Systems, and NIKE golf clubs. All players will also receive a $50 gift card from store4golfers.com.
Registration is $49.99 and includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart rental, and unusual hats and prizes for everyone, as well as a three-course buffet barbecue dinner.
Mulligan tickets and 50/50 raffle tickets will also be available for sale. The golf course restaurant will be open for lunch if golfers wish to eat before going out.
The tournament website, MarkRabinGolfTourney.googlepages.com, provides information about this year's tournament, as well as photos and news from last year's tournament. All tee box sponsors and prize donors will be listed on the website, which will be updated regularly.
Special prizes will be given to the top female and male for longest drive, shortest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt, and Rookie of the Year.
