College Presents Calendar of Recognition Ceremonies


PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 28, 2008) - SUNY Plattsburgh is pleased to present the following celebrations designed to recognize student achievements and to lead up to the college's 2008 Spring Commencement Ceremonies on May 17.

Thursday, May 1

English Department Annual Awards Ceremony, 4:30 p.m. Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center. Students who are winners of this year's prizes and scholarships from the SUNY Plattsburgh English department will be honored for their work.

Communication Studies Student Recognition Ceremony, 12:30 p.m. Yokum Hall, Room 200. The communication department will recognize student excellence and achievement for the 2007 - 2008 academic year. Communication faculty will present various student awards covering many diverse aspects of communication studies. Audio, video and digital media awards will be accompanied by a brief presentation of the award-winning productions.

Friday, May 9

History Department Senior Presentations, 8 a.m. until approximately 5:30 p.m. Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center. History seniors present a final historical research project in a public forum.

Friday, May 16

Communication Disorders and Sciences Graduation Gathering, 3 - 6 p.m. Valcour Conference Center, Main Building. Reception for graduating graduate students and their significant others who have supported them through the past two years.

Honors Program Medallion Ceremony, noon. Krinovitz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. The Honor's Program will present participating students with medallions. Provost Robert Golden will also address students, guests, and family.

Education Health and Human Services Awards and Honors Ceremony, 1:30 p.m. E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium. Contact Robin Prenoveau, 518-564-3066.

9th Annual Arts and Science Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony, 5 p.m. E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. Kathleen H. Lavoie, dean of arts and science will preside over this celebration of student academic achievement. The ceremony will include the presentation of academic awards and scholarships to students from arts and science. A reception will immediately follow the program.

Nursing Pinning Ceremony, 7 p.m. Hartman Theatre, Myers Fine Arts. Nursing graduation pinning ceremony. Dr. Zoanne Burgess Schnell, nursing department chair, Dr. JoAnn Gleeson-Kreig, associate professor of nursing, and Lena Kohlmaier, a graduating nursing student, will speak. This event is for graduating nursing students and their guests.

Senior Reception, 3 p.m. Flynt Commons, Angell College Center. Friends and family of graduating students are welcome to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2008. There will be music, hors d'oeuvres, and beverages. This event is sponsored by the Center for Student Involvement, the Plattsburgh Alumni Association and College Auxiliary Services.

Saturday, May 17

School of Business and Economics Graduation Breakfast, 8 a.m. Warren Ballroom. Awards and recognition will be given to graduating students in the School of Business and Economics. Invitation only.

2008 Spring Commencement Ceremonies, Field House Gymnasium. 10 a.m. for students majoring in education, health and human services, as well as business and economics. 2 p.m. for students in the arts and sciences. Provost Dr. Robert Golden will receive the 2008 Distinguished Service Award, and Douglas Sloan, class of '91, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award.
