College Council to Meet Monday, April 24

The SUNY Plattsburgh College Council will hold its regular April meeting in the Thomas and Marie Hermes Conference Room, Au Sable Hall, Monday, April 24 beginning at 1 p.m.

In addition to regular reports by President John Ettling, council Chair Martin Mannix, Student Association President Vrinda Kumar and committee chairs, the council will hear a report by Jerry Lottie, chief of University Police, on changes to the college’s parking fees, and a presentation and discussion on the new Excelsior Scholarship Program. This program is the first of its kind in the country to provide tuition-free college — at SUNY Plattsburgh and other public institutions — to families making up to $125,000 a year as it is phased in over three years beginning fall 2017 for New Yorkers with federal adjusted gross incomes of $100,000. Todd Moravec, director of financial aid, will discuss the details as they are known at this time.

The council will also consider a resolution honoring the Cardinal women’s ice hockey team on its 2017 NCAA Division III championship; a resolution honoring Kevin Houle on being named ECAC West women’s ice hockey Coach of the Year for 2017;

A resolution honoring Cardinal men’s ice hockey team on becoming 2017 SUNYAC champions; and a resolution honoring Bob Emery on being named 2017 SUNYAC Coach of the Year in men’s ice hockey.

The council will approve tentative dates for meetings for the 2017-2018 academic year. With the exception of the Sept. 22 meeting, all will be held on the main campus at a time to be determined. Tentative meetings are:
