China's New Two-Child Policy Topic of Next Gender and Women's Studies Forum
SUNY Plattsburgh Associate Professor of History Connie Shemo will discuss China’s recent change in its one-child-per-family policy at a Gender and Women’s Studies Forum Thursday, Feb. 22 at 12:30 p.m. in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center.
Shemo will present “Understanding Changes to China’s One-Child Policy: Reflections After a Five-Month Stay in Shanghai.” As a historian of women and gender, Shemo had previously taught students about the one-child policy in China and said she read with interest about the country’s recent transition to a two-child policy.
She said that living recently in Shanghai, particularly with a daughter in a Chinese elementary school, gave her a deeper understanding of how complex this policy has always been.
The forum is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Gender and Women’s Studies at 518-564-2809.
