Champlain Valley Voices, SUNY Plattsburgh Choral Union to Present Weekend of Holiday Music
Champlain Valley Voices and SUNY Plattsburgh Choral Union will present holiday concerts Dec.10 and 11.
Dr. Karen Becker will direct the chorus in a “Holiday Celebration Concert” Saturday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at the United Methodist Church, 127 Beekman St., in Plattsburgh.
The program will feature “Christmas Oratorio” by Camille Saint-Saëns with soloists Rebecca Pethes (soprano), Tanner Knight (tenor) and Adam Eckmair (baritone). The chorus will also perform J. S. Bach’s “Christmas Cantata No. 142” with soloists Maegan Pollonais (soprano), Alex Malsan (tenor) and Steven Hebert (baritone) and the SUNY Plattsburgh Sinfonia Chamber Ensemble.
Becker will then direct a community production of the one-act opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” by Gian Carlo Menotti at 2 p.m. the following day, Sunday, Dec. 11, also at the United Methodist Church.
Performers include Eydon Thomashow (Amahl), Maria Fattore (The Mother), Matt Hammonds (The Page), Perry Kurtz (King Kaspar), Jason Levesque (King Melchior) and Tony Galloro (King Balthazar). Dancers from the regional North Country Ballet Ensemble will be featured as the dancing shepherds.
Tickets for the Dec. 10 concert are available for $17 in advance at Baxter’s Bagels, 22 Brinkerhoff St., in Plattsburgh, or from Champlain Valley Voices members. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Prices are $17 general admission, $10 seniors and $5 students.
Tickets for the Dec. 11 concert will be sold at the door. Admission is $7 with a non-perishable donation for the Interfaith Food Shelf.
