'A Soulful Christmas Celebration 2017' Takes the Glitz Stage Dec. 3


The SUNY Plattsburgh Gospel Choir will present “A Soulful Christmas Celebration 2017,” a family-oriented holiday concert, Sunday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 6:15 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.

Among the selection of music to be presented this year are: "Joy to the World,” "A Christmas Wish" and "Go Tell it on the Mountain" by the Broadway Inspirational Voices, a gospel ensemble of Broadway artists. Rowland Carter's Christmas spiritual, "Mary Had a Baby,” and Quincy Jones' "Hallelujah Chorus" will also be presented. 

This year will feature new soloists, along with the Praise Dancers, Step Team and Praise Team.

Special guests include the Willsboro Central School Chorus, an ensemble comprised of students in grades 4 to 12 and directed by Willsboro music teacher Jennifer Moore, and the Adirondack Community Children’s Chorus from Westport.

The Holiday Bell Choir of Dr. Michael Walter, associate professor of physics, will give a 20-minute pre-show performance.

Advanced tickets are $5 for students and $8 at the door. General admission tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Children under five are free but must share a seat with an adult. Doors open at 3:30 p.m.

Under the artistic leadership of Dr. Dexter Criss, associate professor of chemistry, the choir has travelled internationally to Japan, Toronto, Montreal and recently to the Caribbean Island of St. Martin, and has recently performed at New York City’s Lincoln Center.
