Assistant Professor Director, Ward Hall Counseling Clinic
Dr. Nettie Cambria is an Assistant Professor and the Clinic Director for the Ward
Hall Counseling Clinic in the Department of Counselor Education. She is a licensed
professional counselor (LPC), certified clinical trauma professional level 2 (CCTP-II)
and nationally certified counselor (NCC) with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education.
Nettie is trained in restorative practices and likes to use circles in the classroom
in order to build a strong sense of community. Social justice is a core tenant of
her work and prioritizes a universal design to create an inclusive experience for
students. As an educator, she also likes using interactive and creative approaches
in the classroom. One of her favorite parts about her position here at SUNY Plattsburgh
is providing clinical supervision to our master’s program counselors-in training.
She uses a developmental approach to build competence and confidence in students,
with a primary goal of feeling supported throughout the growth process.
Nettie has provided mental health counseling to her communities for 10+ years. She
has experience working with adolescents, adults, and aging adults through complex
trauma, LGBTQIA+ and disability identities, and depression. Currently, she provides
queer-affirming, neurodivergent-affirming, and trauma-informed care to a small caseload
of clients.
Nettie has been dancing for as long as she can remember and loves to incorporate dance/movement
therapy into her work. Outside of work, she enjoys game nights, taking dance classes
at a local studio, reading, going to movies, and exploring her surroundings in the
Adirondacks.
