LINC — Listening & Inclusion in the North Country
LINC is a growing community coalition built as a catalyst for listening, learning and unifying in our region, promoting dialogue, creating connecting opportunities, and enabling citizens to grow in understanding and open-mindedness.
“North Country” is an intentional placement as this work is not limited to Plattsburgh or Clinton County. It is a regional vision encompassing institutions across the Adirondacks and surrounding areas.
The group draws together SUNY Plattsburgh, the United Way of the Adirondack Region, the Adirondack Diversity Initiative, and many regional community leaders from business, education, law enforcement, and political sectors toward a common purpose: Building a welcoming, inclusive region that prizes its diverse people and works to bring out the best of all residents.
Our work is to create spaces for conversations and relationship building, a film/video and a growing coalition across the North Country. Beneficiaries include area residents who shape new understandings and offer a more welcoming region, college students and businesses who share their experiences and gain perspectives.
While not limited to matters of race and ethnicity, matters of color and background have been the center of incidents and raised as a concern by both long-time residents and newcomers. We can do better, changes that can help the wider community, local businesses and more.
