SUNY Plattsburgh Readies for New, Returning Students Beginning Aug. 20
In less than a week, the SUNY Plattsburgh campus will become alive with activity as new and returning students begin arriving for the fall semester Wednesday, Aug. 20.
Opening Week 2025 begins with new students’ check-in Aug. 20 at the Field House between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Students can find their housing assignment in their housing portal, which requires a login. Those new students who check in after 3 p.m. on Aug. 20 can do so in at the main lobby of their assigned residence hall starting at 4 p.m.
Returning students will have access to their residence halls beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Students who are enrolled in an educational experience such as internships and student
teaching that necessitates an early arrival date, and students with extreme situations,
will be considered for an early move-in date. Visit [email protected].\ for information on early arrival.
The university shuttle will be available Friday, Aug. 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. and return to normal operating hours Monday, Aug. 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sundays.
On campus, a whole host of events are planned for the start of the semester, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 20 when Next Level Gaming comes to the Angell College Center Ballrooms with 12-foot high-definition screens and a giant 26-foot HD screen. XBOX One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and retro games will be available to play. A virtual dance party and a roving photo booth will be part of the festivities.
From there, students won’t have a chance to get bored with more than 50 activities,
events and club meetings being held from Friday through Sunday before the start of
classes, and that doesn’t include all that’s being offered the first week of classes.
Events to choose from opening weekend include:
- Make a custom sequin pillow
- Bingo
- S’mores Making
- Board Game Night
- Transfer Student Welcome
- Color Pop In/Pop Out
- Walk with a Cop: Join University Police for a walking tour of the Blue Trail in Rugar Woods behind the Field House. The route is approximately 1.5 miles and will likely include some muddy spots along the Saranac River so appropriate footwear is advisable.
- Climbing wall orientation at the fitness center, Memorial Hall
