Tax Information for Enrolled Students
Each calendar year student accounts provides tax information for both U. S. and Canadian students.
The Form 1098-T is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tuition statement intended to assist students in determining if they may qualify for a tax education credit on their federal income tax return. SUNY Plattsburgh provides a 1098-T to any enrolled student who incurred qualified tuition and fee expenses paid “out-of-pocket” (i.e., eligible expenses not covered by scholarships and/or grants) during the previous calendar year.
Your 1098-T is mailed to your permanent address by January 31 following the end of a tax year. You can also access your 1098-T form in MyPlattsburgh. Once logged in:
- Select the Students tab
- Click My Tax Notification under the Student Accounts heading
- Enter a tax year (2020 for example)
- Click Submit

As a Canadian student, you need to request tax information from us. We will then provide this information to you using two forms:
Form TL11DE, Tuition Fees Certificate — Educational Institutions Outside Canada for a Deemed Resident of Canada. This form is completed for each semester attended during a particular calendar year (January through December).
Form TL11A, Tuition, Education, and Textbook Amounts Certificate — University Outside Canada. This form is completed for each calendar year for which tax information is requested. It comprises the total amount of eligible tuition and fees for all terms the student attended for any given calendar year.
