Information for Accepted International Students

Information and instructions to pay the I-901 SEVIS fee is available on the US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement website.

To apply for a U.S. visa, you will need the following documents:

1. Valid passport (for at least six months)
2. Original letter of acceptance/admission issued by SUNY Plattsburgh
3. Original SEVIS I-20 form issued by SUNY Plattsburgh
4. I-901 SEVIS fee payment receipt printed out
5. Copies of all of your high/secondary school or college transcripts
6. Copies of your English proficiency scores (TOEFL, IELTS, or other)
7. Proof of ties to your home country

Getting a Student Visa

After you are accepted, you have until the deadline stated on your acceptance letter to pay your non-refundable $250 USD deposit. To do this online, follow these instructions:

1. Login to your admissions portal
2. Click on "Pay Admissions Deposit"
3. Follow the instructions to pay the deposit online

Housing placements are completed on a first-come, first-served basis, so you should pay your admissions deposit and submit the housing application as soon as possible.

Apply for On-Campus Housing

Read the information on our Travel to the U.S. page. You should arrive on campus no later than the Monday before classes begin for your first semester of enrollment. Please refer to the Academic Calendar to determine the correct date. If you have to arrive more than three days before international student orientation begins, you must stay at your own expense at one of the local hotels.

Traveling to the U.S.

Contact your primary care doctor as soon as possible to request that your immunization records be sent to the Student Health and Counseling Center prior to your enrollment. Email: [email protected] with any questions.

You will also need to submit a student health report and a meningitis response form after paying your deposit. Review the International Student Health Report Form carefully and fill it out. You will need the help of your physician to complete the form, so you might want to schedule an appointment now. Submit the completed form and your current immunization records using this form prior to departing your home country.

Immunization records and health forms are due by July 1 (for fall enrolling students) or by Jan. 1 (for spring enrolling students).

International Student Health Report Form

As soon as your travel plans are confirmed, fill out the International Student Arrival Information Form. To find out how to get to Plattsburgh, refer to our Traveling to the U.S. page. We do not pick up students from New York City, Boston, or Montreal. We provide free transportation to campus between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. from the bus station, airport, and train terminals located in Plattsburgh. In addition, we provide van transportation from Burlington International Airport in Burlington, Vermont between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. If your travel plans change after submitting the arrival information form or during your travel day, call or email our office immediately.
