Dr. Kasey Stewart

Adjunct Lecturer

Dr. Kasey Stewart has been teaching at colleges and universities in New York and Illinois since 1999. Currently, she teaches applied voice at SUNY Plattsburgh in her studio in Room 114B in the John Meyers Fine Arts Building.

Kasey recognizes and supports each student’s unique learning style and vocal identity. Her instruction is tailored to each student’s goals, needs and learning style. Her pedagogical flexibility promotes successful outcomes for both neurodivergent and neurotypical learners. Dr. Stewart teaches all musical genres and styles of singing and encourages training the voice in as many as possible. Her research has shown that this type of “vocal cross-training” improves vocal strength, flexibility and longevity. She helps students uncover their authentic voice by incorporating actor training with the vocalist’s innate musicality. Dr Kasey Stewart encourages and mentors students to create personal and unique performance opportunities. This promotes personal agency while using Western Classical Music traditions as a scaffolding for creating inclusive and inspiring musical experiences.

In addition to her musical work with local churches, Dr. Stewart performs internationally with Theatre Street Productions, LLC. playing the role of famous Metropolitan Opera Contralto Louise Homer in their Living History Concert Series. She has also been invited to sing at the Newport Summer Music Festival and the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Harrogate, England in the UK. She performs jazz, opera, musical theater, oratorio, 20th and 21st century vocal music and classical art song in several languages. Dr. Kasey Stewart has worked and collaborated with several major composers, conductors, voice teachers, vocal coaches and acting mentors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Curtis Institute of Music, The Juilliard School, the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera and The Second City Training Centers in Los Angeles, Calif. and Chicago, Illinois. She has also been a proud member of the American Guild of Musical Artists, AGMA, since 1999.
