Lecturer of Journalism
Until becoming a full-time instructor, Jack Downs was the design and systems editor at the Press-Republican in Plattsburgh, where he oversaw daily production duties, training and newsroom systems. After graduating from Cornell University in 1984, Downs started his journalism career as a general-assignment reporter at the Press-Republican. Since then he has held a variety of reporting and editing positions. As the newspaper’s first-ever design editor, Downs redesigned the paper in 1996 and 2002. He guided the paper into the world of digital production, first in Quark and now in InDesign. He continues to edit at the paper as a consultant.
