SUNY Plattsburgh Students Return for Fall 2024; First Day of Classes Aug. 26

For the 135th time in the history of the university, SUNY Plattsburgh students will return to campus for the start of the academic year.

First-year students will begin arriving Wednesday, Aug. 21, checking into the field house on Rugar Street from 9 a.m. to noon for students whose last names start A-K; students whose names begin L-Z check in between noon and 3 p.m. Returning students will have access to their residence halls beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 where they can check in at the main lobby of their assigned hall.

During first-year move-in Aug. 21, traffic on Rugar Street will be one way from west to east starting at Sanborn Avenue just past Sibley Hall, ending at the roadway between Macomb and the college store in Saranac Hall. University Police will be on hand and have signage to assist with traffic management.

When they’re not busy setting up their dorm rooms, students will have a full slate of activities and events to choose from Wednesday through Sunday before the first day of classes Monday, Aug. 26, including:

  • A welcome week picnic lunch and dinner
  • Movie on the Green: “Godzilla X Kong”
  • Pancakes on the Patio
  • Laser tag
  • Bingo
  • Rugar Woods Walk
  • Fitness Center tours
  • Cardinal Trivial Quest
  • Zombie Apocalypse survive tips
  • Begin to slackline
  • Meet University Police K9s
  • Silent disco
  • Involvement Fair
  • Intro to climbing
  • Dog toys for local shelters
  • Bonfire with live music
